Also known as injection lipolysis, fat dissolving injections are a non-surgical procedure that targets and eliminates localised pockets of fat. The key component in these injections is deoxycholic acid, naturally found in the body, which breaks down dietary in the digestive system. By injecting a synthetic form of higher concentration into area of fat deposits, a disruption of the cell membrane of fat cells causes them to release their contents into the extra-cellular space. The body then naturally metabolises this via the lymphatic system leading to a more sculpted appearance. The injections are delivered with tiny needles which allows precision.
This treatment is aimed at targeted fat reduction in a minimally invasive way, with minimal side effects, with results becoming more noticeable over several weeks as the body processes the treated fat. The fat cells are no expected to return, as long as a healthy lifestyle is maintained and, as such, should not be considered a ‘diet’ or ‘weight loss’ solution.
It is advisable for clients to be within one stone of their recommended body weight and be able to pinch 3cm of fat and be generally healthy without any skin diseases or skin conditions in the target area. This treatment is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or for those that have been diagnosed with lipodystrophy or any pathological conditions.

Aftercare
It is normal for some swelling, redness or irritation in the treated area which may last for several hours to several days after treatment. In some cases, the area may feel slightly tender, numb or itchy but this should normally subside after a few days. In rare cases, this may last up to four weeks.
The First Few Days:
Avoid any anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, naproxen or aspirin in higher doses for at least 48 hours as these can increase bruising.
Avoid touching the treated area to allow the solution to work effectively.
Avoid applying makeup to any treated area for approximately 12 hours, after which time ensure that any applicators, sponges or brushes are clean.
Apply a cool compress (10 minutes on, 10 minutes off) to help reduce swelling and discomfort.
The First Few Weeks:
Avoid alcohol which can interfere with the body’s ability to process the dissolved fat.
Avoid strenuous activities and vigorous exercise for at least 10 days.
Avoid hot baths or showers, swimming, direct sunlight, sauna, steam room, sunbed and any other heat treatments for at least 3 days.
Drink plenty of water (at least 2 litres daily) to help flush out the dissolved fat and minimise swelling.
WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION
Allergy or Infection is extremely rare. If you do experience the following symptoms, then please seek urgent medical advice.
Anaphylaxis : although this is extremely rare, it is a serious condition which requires urgent medical attention. Symptoms may include swelling, rashes, redness or blotching around your face and you may experience difficulty in breathing or talking. CALL 999.
